The characterful coastline never fails to disappoint with epic white cliffs, jagged promontories and coloured chalk crags that tumble down to the shore. Surfers will love the breaks found on West Wight and explorers can uncover dinosaur footprints at Compton Bay; but for those who just want to sit back and leave busy behind, head for the lesser known Steephill Cove.
History buffs can get lost in the opulence of Osborne House, discover the Royal prison of Charles I at Carisbrooke castle or take a charm filled trip on the steam railway; whilst foodies will welcome the abundance of seafood and scrummy local produce from beer to chutneys, jumbo garlic to delicious ice cream.
With a packed social calendar, the Island is bursting at the seams with special, don’t miss occasions including the legendary Isle of Wight Festival giving you the option to rock out to well-known bands or discover the next big thing with tonnes of up and coming artists to check out. The sailing crews flock in each year for Cowes Week, one of the oldest sailing events in the world and a great place for star-spotting!
Your four-legged friends will receive a warm welcome too. The Isle of Wight is one of the most dog-friendly places to visit with a wide variety of coastal and country walks. Dogs are welcome on most beaches all year round and in many of the Island’s eateries. Get their tales wagging with free travel for dogs on all car ferry routes as well as the Ryde catamaran, Red Jet and Hovercraft and the Island buses and trainline.
